Tina's Magic Cottage Sells Used Kids' Books!!
 | Yes, its true! I have scoured the used book stores, I have combed
the yard sales, I have spent hours surfing ebay and amazon...All to find fantastic
titles to provide here for you!
 | I have been a children's book connoisseur for years...ever since I
taught preschool and started collecting them...Now as a mom, its
hopeless. I may never read another grownup book again. *chuckle*
 | But all this benefits you! I know good books when I see them!
And I'm really picky!! |

Tina's Criteria for Good Children's Books:
 | Appealing, attractive, adorable and artistic artwork. The
cover is what draws me in...and the art in some kids' books is just
downright ugly...I don't even open the book if I'm turned off by the
cover. I know, I know, don't judge a book by its cover...yeah
yeah...well, I do. Sorry. LOL. Ugly artwork gives me an ugly
feeling...and I just can't imagine a plot or character development that
could be so stupendous to compensate for ugly artwork. Anyway, I really
love kids books with just breathtaking artwork...some that immediately
come to mind:
And then there's quirky and cute
artwork:
Both are equally treasured by me.
|
 | Well-written fun or beautiful meaning plots.
These tend to go in line with the artwork...the beautiful, deep meaning,
tear-jerking plots tend to go with the breathtaking, realistic,
goosebump invoking artwork...and the funny, silly, happy, friendly plots
tend to go with the adorable, silly, happy, funny artwork. But not
always. |
 | The absence of anything that I see as sexist, racist, violent or
mean.
There are occasions when a book just has too many good qualities to
pitch the entire thing over one page...but I really do try to not
purchase anything that contains anything I see as poor role modeling.
I'm not real fond of very old children's books for this reason. |
 | When possible, I like to provide my child (and yours) with
diversity.
Many kids' books are about animals or just don't have such diversity as
differently abled people, a variety of types of families, or ethnic
related themes or characters...but I am drawn to books like this when I
can find them. |
